Why Are We So Afraid?

SUDESTADA, Brooklyn, New York · July 11 – August 3, 2024

Project statement

An invitation to befriend fear — to treat it as a catalyst for growth rather than something to be silenced.

Montefalcone's first solo exhibition took the form of a residency: over several weeks inside the space, she produced one of her largest hand-painted works to date — close to ten meters — built from the conversations, notes and personal stories that visitors left behind.

Fear was externalized in writing, absorbed into textile, and transformed through ritual. The exhibition operated as a public studio, a collective archive and a performance space at once.
