Love Me Boots

2024–2026 · Wearable sculpture / hand-painted silk / performance

Project statement

A collection of wearable sculptures created from hand-painted silk, developed through the artist’s ongoing investigation of the body, pregnancy, vulnerability, motherhood, identity, desire, and transformation.

The work begins with silk painted by hand over years: a slow accumulation of gesture, color, thought, and time. The paintings hold an ongoing process of self-reflection and the experience of inhabiting a body as it changes. Rather than remaining flat, the silk is cut apart and rebuilt into boots: sculptures that can be worn, that carry weight, move through space, and touch the skin.

Painting, textile, sculpture, performance, and the body converge in a single work. Wearing the boots allows these private reflections to enter the world and become part of an encounter. A stranger sees them, asks about them, responds to them: “Wow, I love your boots.” That simple exchange can become an opening for conversation, recognition, and connection.

Love Me Boots transforms years of painted silk and intimate reflection into objects that carry private experience outward, making the body a site not only of transformation, but of connection.

Conceptual lineage

From fear to love

Love Me Boots continues the inquiry opened by Why Are We So Afraid? (SUDESTADA, Brooklyn, 2024), where visitors were invited to name their fears and transform them through textile, writing, and ritual.

If that work asked us to give form to what we fear, Love Me Boots turns toward what we long for: love, intimacy, recognition, and connection. The work follows the changing body through pregnancy and motherhood, asking how private experiences can be carried outward and become points of connection with others.

Open call

Love Me Boots is being developed as an immersive exhibition environment.

Curators, performers, choreographers, spaces, and event programmers are invited to participate in the creation of the upcoming exhibition.
