Mitad Peluda y Mitad Pelada, photographic essay

A photographic essay and a body of work in the most literal sense: the artist stopped shaving half of her body — one armpit, one leg, half a crotch — and photographed what appeared.

Looking for the part of herself she had never seen before, Montefalcone let one half of her body grow while the other stayed smooth. The body that resulted — half hairy, half bare — refused the expectation of soft, smooth, hairless femininity, and became both subject and object of the essay.

The images sit inside her ongoing research into life performances: performances carried out through daily life, where the decision to stop doing something ordinary becomes the work itself.
